Cabinet decisions

The Government has decided to start the second stage of the Community Water Supply project in seven districts. The Cabinet has approved the Cabinet paper submitted by Urban Development and Water Resources Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to start this project in Badulla, Ratnapura, Matara, Galle, Colombo, Anuradhapaura and Hambantota.

Allocation of Rs. 75 million to start the project this year and to find the balance from the foreign donors.

The Government has decided to intervene in collection of copper, brass and aluminium and provide them to small medium industrialists in the country.

Accordingly, the Industrial Development Board will intervene in collecting discarded copper, brass and aluminium from the Government Press, Sri Lanka Army, Railway Department, Petroleum Corporation and the Police.

The Cabinet has approved the Cabinet paper presented by Small and Rural Industries Minister Lal Kantha.

The Government has decided not to present the Water Resource Management Bill which in long term paves the way for the depriviation of water resource from the farmer community.

Instead, the Government has decided to bring new legislation to Parliament ensuring the farmer community the right of using water resources and introducing new water resource management laws.
