by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi In a bid to resolve the shortage of dental surgeons in Government Health institutions, the Health Ministry has decided to recruit 120 dentists with immediate effect. The Ministry decision follows reports that public is facing severe hardship due to the shortage of dental surgeons at Government health institutions. Reports indicate there are around 15,000 in the waiting list for dental treatment. "Accordingly, those 120 to be recruited will be posted at hospitals in backward areas." a Ministry official added. The Treasury has approved this proposal while the Ministry is making arrangements to obtain permission from the Public Service Commission. "Those who have passed the final examinations will have the opportunity to apply for these posts," the official added. Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said these appointments will be made in July and steps will be taken to resolve the waiting list for dental treatment in the next few months. |
