No one could stop Murali's forward march, says CP Governor

by S.M. Jiffery Abdeen - Kandy South Group Corr.

"No one could stop your forward march with the inborn skills and talents you have will go from strength to strength and reign supreme in the world of cricket much more than the world record you have achieved now, said the Governor of the Central Province Monty Gopallawa.

He was speaking at the welcome reception accorded to cricket star and the current highest number of wicket taker in test cricket Muthaiah Muralitharan at the entrance to the city of Kandy near the Royal Botancal Gardens as the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Governor Gopallawa said that he has been following Muralitharan's cricketing career very closely and from the time he rose up as a bowler troubling the best batsmen in the world with his tantalising deliveries which made them grope and crouch and only to feel groggy and there was no doubt that a star was born in the horizon of Sri Lanka cricket.

He has watched him play not only in Sri Lanka but also abroad.

Governor Gopallawa said that this bowler Muralitharan always fascinated him and he starts his bowling run up with a smile before sending his lethal deliveries.

He always looked a well disciplined cricketer and even at the time his cricketing world appeared shattered when he was called for so- called 'throwing', we saw him wearing a broad smile and took it in its stride which in a way helped to diffuse an already explosive situation. He did not display his rancour or bitterness over the incident.

He just smiled and allowed his captain Arjuna Ranatunga to handle the situation which he did admirably.

In conclusion Governor Gopallawa said with his cricketing deeds Murlaitharan has the whole world at his feet and everyone is talking about him and writing about him and it will be not wrong to say the word 'Muralitharan' is the much used word these days not only in the cricket circles but also in the sports world.

A cricketer having such great qualities could not be put down and it will be only making him more determined and will answer his detractors with his deeds on the cricketing field.
