To stabilise prices:

Large stock of Markfed rice released

The Sri Lanka Co-operative Marketing Federation (MARKFED) is releasing rice stocks to the market in a bid to stabilise prices. MARKFED has nearly 850,000 Kgs of paddy in stock. These paddy stocks are now being milled and released to the market through MARKFED outlets and Multi Purpose Co-operative Societies to control the increase in the price of rice in the local market.

Railway Authority to be scrapped

The Railway Authority will be scrapped. All its powers and functions will be handed back to a more strong and vigorous Railway Department. This will be done in a manner that facilitates the implementation of proposals aimed to develop the Department as a viable institution, said Transport Minister Felix Perera.
