by Indeewara Thilakarathne Colombo Additional Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya yesterday further remanded a suspect till June 7, from whose business establishment a consignment of roofing sheets meant for distribution among low income families, were recovered. The sheets were donated by the Indian Government under the Indian Credit Line. Arunasalam Subramanium, the suspect, was charged for selling roofing sheets marked "Not for Sale". A team of police officers led by sub-inspector Pathirana raided the suspect's business establishment "Uni Traders" at Old York Street on May 18, arrested the suspect recovered 176 roofing sheets marked "not for sale", each worth Rs. 610. He was charged under Public Property Act. An attempt has been made to erase the mark on the sheets. The consignment approximately is valued at Rs. 107,360. Police yesterday submitting its report to the Courts informed that they have completed investigations into 40 roofing sheets and yet to complete their investigations into 136 more sheets, recovered from the suspect's possession. Police told Court that the investigations had revealed that the suspect had bought these sheets at Rs. 475 each from brokers. The Police further said that investigations has revealed that some of the "recipients of the roofing sheets" themselves had sold the 'roofing sheets to the brokers.' |
