English Teachers' Union commends President

The Secretary General of the All Ceylon Union of English Teachers M.A. Stanley Perera has highly commended President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in her capacity as the Minister of Education for introducing the following measures within a short period for the betterment of the student/teacher population in Sri Lanka.

* Re-introducing the distribution of School uniforms through the Schools;

* Revising the school curriculum by adding Literature and History as subjects;

* Granting 27,000 employment to Graduate Teachers within the next two months;

* To provide one meal to school children in selected difficult area schools;

* To increase the University Bursaries up to two thousand rupees etc.

The Union is also grateful to the Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Tara de Mel for taking prompt action to implement these proposals.
