Dialog GSM's 'Change' donates computers to Arunodhaya Computer Training Centre

The Change Trust Fund, the charitable arm of Dialog GSM recently gifted computers to the Isipathanaramaya Computer Training Centre in Halloluwa, enhancing the computer training facilities available to the students of the Dhamma School.

The three computers will be utilised for the development of computer education provided there. The course will include introduction to basic computer knowledge, introduction to Windows, introduction to mac operating systems and introduction to the Internet.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Isipathanaramaya, Halloluwa. The Computer Training Centre was opened by Dialog GSM's Manager - Distribution Pradeep Keerthirathne. B.D.R. Rajan, Managing Director Sun Match Co. Ltd., R.N. Patney, Managing Director - Celetron Lanka (Pvt) Ltd were present. Wickremesinghe, Chairman Provincial Council - Haarispathuwa. The Chief Priest of the Isipathanaramaya Ven. Kolugala Wajiragnana Thera presided.

Viharadhipathi Ven. Kolugala Wajiragnana Thera said "Dialog GSM has today shown that they are not just a leader in the mobile communications industry but also a company with social responsibility.

The assistance they gave us today by providing the computer training center will help gear out children for the future. Without the assistance of Dialog GSM, this would never have become a reality".

The Change trust fund was set up by Dialog GSM together with its over 900,000 customers to aid several identified charities. The unique mechanism of the Change Trust Fund necessitates that the company matches contributions made by its customers one-for-one: it is an initiative that has received ready response from Dialog GSM subscribers.

The Change Trust Fund has sponsored a series of large scale educational projects such as the Dialog Scholar program and the All Island Art and Literacy Competition while books and computers have been donated to universities islandwide and the education of 600 orphans from the Jaffna district has also been sponsored.

Other major projects sponsored by the Change Trust fund are the Jaipur Foot Program, The National Child Protection Authority and the Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind.

The Change Trust Fund has received international recognition with Dialog GSM winning the "Best use of GSM in the Community" award for three consecutive years at the GSM World Awards held in Cannes, France in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
