Weerapperuma Nominations for Uva and Central Provinces will be accepted from today, May 14 to 21 mid noon at the Divisional Secretariats of the provinces. For the balance four provincial Councils Sabaragamuwa, North Central, Western and Southern Provinces nominations will be accepted from Friday, May 21 to 28 midnoon. Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake has called upon all registered political parties and independent groups vieing to contest the forthcoming Provincial Election to hand over their nomination papers on or before the final day of the day of accepting nominations. The two main political parties, the Freedom Alliance and the UNF are yet to finalise the list of nominees. SLMC sources said the party leadership was continuing discussions with the CWC to form an alliance to contest the Uva and Central Provinces instead of joining the two main political parties. The SLMC is also of the view that they should fight the Provincial Council elections alone in the balance four provinces. The CWC said that they would take a final decision as to with whom they should join. Sources added that the party leadership has spoken to the two main political parties but has not arrived at a final decision. The Nava Vamansika Peramuna leader Dr. Vickramabahu Karunaratne said that his party has decided to contest both the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces at the forthcoming Provincial elections. The Jathika Hela Urumaya will decide whether they will field candidates to contest the Provincial Council elections and also whether it will be a mixture of religious and laymen if it decides to contest.
