by Nadira Gunatilleke The North Central Provincial Council under former Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake has rendered a significant service to the education sector during its regime since 1999. The Province has spent Rs.7700 million during that period, said Coordinating Secretary to the former Chief Minister Sarath Bandara Herath. Herath said that the development program launched under the theme of `No future without education' was meant to improve the education sector in the North Central Province. Building facilities were provided to several difficult schools under the project which was one part of a ten year development plan implemented by the NCP. The NCP provided a developed school for every Divisional Secretariat division under this project. Sixty selected schools in the NCP were completely developed under the project. Setting up model schools, opening of a health file for every student admitted to grade one, registration of pre-schools are among the other services done during the project. Arrangements have been made to provide an efficient Administrative service in the Province and Presidential awards were given to the best teachers and principals of schools. |
