by Sarath Malalasekera Colombo Crime Division (CCD) investigating the aleged sale and possession of aluminium sheets imported to be distributed free among the low income people, yesterday recorded a statement of former Western Province Regional Development UNP Minister M. H. Mohamed. Earlier, the Colombo Additional Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya refused an application for bail in respect of three suspects remanded in connection with the selling and possession of roofing sheets. The three suspects were re-remanded till May 17. The three suspects are S. Pillai Shamugam, Mohamed Hussain Faroos Jaufer and R. Gnanasekera. Karippa Sivakumar, was earlier released on bail. Colombo Crime Division ASP Palitha Fernando who appeared for the prosecution, objected to the suspects being released on bail and said the investigations into the fraud had not yet been completed. Earlier, the two suspects produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate Ranjan Dissanayake were granted cash bail in Rs.10,000 and Rs.25,000 each with two sureties. Investigations are directed by Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath and conducted by CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda assisted by ASP Palitha Fernando, Inspector Nuwan Wedasinghe, OIC, CCD and Sub Inspector N.R.M. Rajapaksa of the CCD. |
