Lanka can work more closely with India - Anura Bandaranaike by Chamikara Weerasinghe Following a discussion with Indian High Commissioner Nirupam Sen and Korean Ambassador Jae Hong Lim at his Ministry yesterday, Industrial, Tourism and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Bandaranaike told the media that Sri Lanka will be able to work more closely with the Indian Government, should the Congress Party win the General election. Minister Bandaranaike was responding to a comment by the Indian High Commissioner at the meeting that Congress would clinch the poll. "The links between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Indira Congress has been very strong so much so the friendship that existed unbroken between the Gandhi family and the Bandaranaike family remained firm over the years," he said. "This friendship can manifest in the direction of successful ties between Sri Lanka and India," he said. Minister Bandaranaike said arrangements were in place to set up a separate unit at the Board of Investment building for Indian trade and investment on the High Commissioner's request. He said India has agreed to increase its flights to Sri Lanka. Steps will be taken to increase Indian Investments, tourism to the country, he said. Recalling the Indian Government's promise to support Sri Lanka to establish peace, Bandaranaike said he was sure that any Indian Government would support the course taken by Sri Lanka to establish peace in the country. |
