ISO certification for NDB Bank's Trade Finance Services

NDB Bank once again demonstrated its commitment to world-class service, when it obtained ISO 9001:2000 certification for its Trade Finance Department, recently, a media release from NDB Bank said. With this certification, issued by internationally reputed registrar, SGS, under the accreditation of UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Services), NDB Bank becomes the first in Sri Lanka to achieve an accredited certification of ISO 9001: 2000 for Trade Finance services.

The certification covers the full range of import and export products including, import and export LCs, documentary collections, negotiation of documents under Letters of Credits, pre and post shipment advances, and guarantees including performance bonds, bid bonds and shipping guarantees.

Discussing the achievement, NDB Bank's Vice President - Head of Operations and IT, Kumar Weerasuriya said, "What this certification means to our customers, is that they can now be assured of a consistently high standard of service each and every time they transact with the Bank's Trade Finance Department. We intend to continue our pursuit of best practices in banking and implement quality management systems across other areas of the bank as well."

In essence, ISO standard covers the five main elements: Quality management system, Management responsibility, Resource management, Service realisation and Measurement, analysis and improvement. It is based on management principles that highlight customer focus, people involvement, partnering with suppliers, facts-based decision making, a process approach and a system approach, which will integrate the different processes.

An organisation compliant with ISO 9001: 2000 ensures that it has a sound quality management system that conforms to international standards, and focuses on quality objectives, continual improvement and monitoring of customer satisfaction.
