by Seela Uduwara and Samudra Kumari The National Vesak celebrations this year will be conducted at the Viharamahadevi Park, opposite the Colombo Town Hall under the patronage of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga from today, May 4 to May 7. The celebrations include an exhibition of about 120 Vesak lanterns, a public exposition of the Sacred Relics of Buddha, a photographic exhibition of ancient Viharas, Bhakthi Geetha recitals, religious drama shows and puppet shows. The All Ceylon Buddhist Congress will conduct its Vesak Festival Programme at Bauddhaloka Mawatha on the theme "Bauddhalokaya Dasatha Pathuramu" consisting of an exhibition of innovative Vesak lanterns and Dhammapada recitals. The Vesak lantern exhibition organized by the Sambodhi Viharaya, Colombo, will cover the areas of Horton Place, Gregory's Road and Wijerama Mawatha. The "Sadaham Sisila" Vesak Festival jointly organized by the Sri Vajirarama Buddhist Centre, Prison Headquarters and Colombo University will be conducted from today, May 4 to 7, flanking Vajirasrama Buddhist Centre opposite the Prison Headquarters at Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha, Colombo. |
