News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Nominations for Uva, Central Province polls Nominations will be received for elections to the Uva and Central Province from May 15 to 12 noon on May 21 by the returning officers of respective districts, the Elections Secretariat announced yesterday. The terms of the two Provincial Councils expired on April 25. A total of 56 members will be elected to the Central Province, 30 for Kandy district, 10 for Matale district and 16 for Nuwara Eliya while 32 members will be elected to the Uva Province, 21 for Badulla district and 11 for Moneragala district. The parties and independent groups are expected to hand over 33 nominations for the Kandy district, 13 for Matale and 19 for Nuwara Eliya of the Central Province. In the Uva Province, 24 nominations are required to be filed for the Badulla district and 14 for the Moneragala district. The election will be fixed within five to eight weeks from the last nominations day and the election notification will be issued as soon as the nominations are closed by the returning officers. |
