SPC Minister's murder: Weapons, bullets forwarded to Govt analyst by Sarath Malalasekera The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) investigating the murder of Southern Provincial Council Minister M.K. Ranjith alias Chandi Malli, filing a further report before Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne, said yesterday they have forwarded the weapon and the spent bullets taken into custody in connection with the killing, to the Government Analyst for a comprehensive report. Earlier, CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda said he had deployed a special team to arrest another suspect allegedly involved in the killing. The Director said they are looking for a suspect who allegedly drove the vehicle with the assailants after the killing. Police told court they had forwarded the dossier of the investigation into the killing to the Attorney General for his advice. The Judge directed the prisons authorities to produce suspects in the murder before the special court in the premises of the Prison Department. The case will be called again on May 14. CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda said he had deployed a special team to arrest the army deserter wanted in connection with the murder. Investigators arrested six suspects allegedly involved in the killing. Sunil Ratnaweera the main suspect in the case was killed while being taken to the Hambantota courts. The other five suspects are R.W. Jayaratne alias Rahula, R.W. Jayawardena, P.G. Jagath Kumara alias Pallethrana Jagath, A.A. Wijelal, H.A. Prasanna alias Podi Malli and M. A. Sugath alias Loku Malli. The Provincial Council Minister was shot dead by unidentified gunmen close to the High Security Zone, York Street, Colombo on May 25 morning. He was killed while returning after appearing before the CID on a court order. Southern Range DIG D.W. Prathapasinghe is directing investigations conducted by Director CCD Senior SP Sarath Lugoda and assisted by SP Gamini Dissanayake of the Police Legal Division, ASPs Priyantha Fernando, Hettiarachchi, RSI C.B.K. Iddamalgoda and Constable Gamini. |
