Rs 180m heroin haul at warehouse by Sarath Malalasekera and Manjula Fernando A large haul of 'brown sugar' heroin with a street value of about Rs. 180 million was detected by the Customs Preventive officers at a Colombo Port warehouse yesterday, a senior customs official told the Daily News. "The six kilos of heroin contraband were concealed inside a pounding machine which had been imported sometime ago from India," the sources said. Two suspects, a young woman and a man, were arrested and have been detained by Preventive officers for further investigation. "This is one of the biggest narcotic detections made in the history of the Customs Department," the official said. The two suspects will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Unit and produced in court. |
