Air Arabia recognises Colombo as high growth region Following the success of Air Arabia's first flight to the Indian Sub-Continent with its inaugural flight to Sri Lanka on January 13 more initiatives are under way to develop the airline's presence in Sri Lanka. Air Arabia, the national carrier of UAE is the first low-cost air carrier of its kind in the Middle East and North African region. The Nawaloka Aviation, which comes under the Nawaloka Group of Companies, is the General Sales Agents for Air Arabia in Sri Lanka. Air Arabia operates a fleet of three state-of-the-art airbus which can carry 155 passengers and flies to 13 destinations including Colombo. Air Arabia will offer many features that are novel to the Sri Lankan market such as ticketless travel whereby passengers need not obtain tickets in the conventional form. Sri Lankan holidaymakers travelling from Colombo to Sharjah will be offered special holiday packages that include the air passage, visa arrangements and accommodation at very competitive rates. Air Arabia operates as a single-class airline and does not provide free meals onboard. However a meal voucher will be available for Sri Lankan passengers to obtain their food onboard. "Our aim is to make air travel more convenient and increase frequent flying by providing the most competitive fares in the market without compromising on safety, security and quality of service," said Milton Kuruppu, CEO, Nawaloka Aviation, who has a wealth of experience in the airline industry. Elaborating further he said that Air Arabia is committed to enabling customers especially expatriate and migrant workers travelling to and from the Middle East who have not been able to frequently travel in the past to start travelling throughout the region and those who do travel to do so more often. Owing to the prevailing economic prosperity, attractiveness as a bdestination and increase of migrant and expatriate worker traffic, Air Arabia has recognised Sri Lanka as a high growth region and potential market which needed to be explored. In addition the airline plans on expanding its flight frequency from the present four flights per week to daily flights in the near future. |
