Fourteen killed, 121 badly hurt in Maluku violence

AMBON, Indonesia, Monday (AFP) Fourteen people have been killed and 121 others were badly injured in an outbreak of Muslim-Christian violence in the eastern Indonesian city of Ambon, the provincial police chief said Monday.

"Up until now there are 121 severely injured ... those who died now number 14," Maluku provincial police chief, Brigadier General Bambang Sutrisno, told reporters in Ambon.

It was not clear whether all the victims died Sunday, when the violence flared, or whether some were killed on Monday. Latest reports said the city was calmer Monday morning.
