Minister wants probe into missing buses expedited

Transport Minister Felix Perera has instructed the Sri Lanka Central Transport Board (SLCTB) to complain to the IGP regarding the delay of the probe into the whereabouts of the buses handed over to the Latec company for repairs.

Transport Ministry officials have informed Minister Perera that the company has not returned 143 buses taken in for repairs during the previous regime.

A Transport Ministry spokesman said the Minister was awaiting the CID report in order to claim compensation for the losses caused to the SLCTB and to seek action against those responsible.

The buses had been obtained soon after the UNF government assumed power in 2001.

Transport Ministry and SLCTB officials who visited the Werahera workshop with the intention of tracing the missing buses, have not been allowed to enter. The SLCTB later officially complained to the police that the buses were missing.

However, the CID has not informed the SLCTB of any progress in their investigation.
