'Exporting rubber products from Lanka'

Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) and the Kalutara District Chamber of Commerce and Industry will organise a seminar on "Exporting rubber products from Sri Lanka" on May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the DHPL auditorium in Colombo.

The aim of the seminar is to create awareness on the requirements for export of rubber manufacturing products from Sri Lanka. An official of the EDB said a seminar would benefit the small and medium scale exporters and potential exporters of rubber products in Sri Lanka to deal with international partners.

The resource persons from the public and private sector will speak on industrial, technological and other developments activities of the present rubber industry such as requirements for exports, problems faced by the rubber industry, quality requirements and new developments. (IR)

Volatile outlook at Bourse

Trading at the Colombo Bourse took on a volatile outlook yesterday with mixed recordings. The All Share Price Index increased to 1,221.85 points from 1,212.68 points on Friday. The Milanka Price Index depreciated to 1,849.73 points compared to 1,865.63 points on Friday. NDB also acquired another 20% equity in controlling assets o f the NDB Bank.

According to Stock Brokers, the market would start to pick up in next few days as the investors have responded positively to the government's initiative to re-start peace talks with LTTE. They said that the investors are closely watching progress of the peace bid and the market might respond accordingly.

Turnover for the day was Rs 457,164,272.

NDB Bank, Ceylinco Seylan, Blue Diamonds and SLT were the heavily traded stocks. Domestic purchases were Rs 1.394 million and foreign purchases Rs 60 million. Carsons, Renuka City Hot, Bukit Darah, Horana and ACL Plastics were the top five gainers.

LOLC's Annual Report - the best

LOLC's Annual Report was selected as the best report in the Leasing category at the recently concluded "corporate reporting of 2004" organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL). It was highly rated for its compliance of accounting standards which has met various expectations of its stake-holders enabling them to win the award for the best report in the Leasing Sector.

An official of the Company said that their financial reporting has greater transparency that go beyond just the financial numbers.
