Dialog GSM has come forward to sponsor four leading rugby playing clubs - Army SC, CR and FC, Police SC and Air Force SC in the forthcoming rugby season. Thus Dialog becomes the first firm to sponsor four major rugby clubs in a single season.

Army rugby is being sponsored for the third successive year by Dialog GSM while CR and FC is being sponsored for the second consecutive year. Police and Air Force are being sponsored for the first time by Dialog GSM.

Speaking at a press briefing at JAIC Hilton on Wednesday the Chairman of Army Rugby major General H.M.N. Krishanaratne said that Army rugby has immensely benefitted from Dialog GSM's sponsorship during the last two years and with this year's sponsorship Army's rugby will go from strength to strength.

The secretary of CR and FC Jehan Canagaratne said that it was an unprecedented effort by Dialog GSM to sponsor four leading rugby clubs. The sponsorship will help the four clubs to improve their rugby standard and he hoped one of those clubs will clinch the league championship.

DIG Nimal Lewke, Chairman of Police rugby said that this is the first time that police rugby is being sponsored by a company. Police is happy to be associated with Dialog GSM which is doing a lot to promote sports.

The service teams have been dominating club rugby in the 1970's and 80's but unfortunately only Army has been performing wall during the last few years.

The Chairman of Air Force rugby Air Vice Marshal Channa Guneratne said that he was delighted with the sponsorship package as Air Force rugby desparately needed a sponsor to improve its rugby standard.

The CEO of Dialog GSM Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya said. "Dialog GSM is committed to nurturing sportsmen of the future, today by encouraging, promoting and developing young talent at club level and giving them the required exposure to improve their skill level in order to ensure a fertile source of talent to feed the national team."

He also spoke of the importance of long-term commercial sponsorship in uplifting Sri Lankan sports to internationally competitive levels. He said, "Dialog GSM is proud to play a significant role in the sporting action here: our aim is to ensure that all sports of national value are supported adequately in their development towards internationally competitive levels.

At Dialog GSM, we believe in maximizing an individual's resources and drive - we believe that these four sponsorships will help four brilliant young teams strengthen themselves and perform outstandingly well in the true spirit of competition".
