Premature end for Ukranian athletic coaches

Sri Lanka is to prematurely terminate the services of its three Ukrainian coaches in charge of the Sri Lanka athletes.

President of the AASL Sunil Jayaweera said the decision has been taken after the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports refused to meet the finances needed. He said the coaches were brought down on the assurance that the Ministry will meet the funds. But at a recent meeting with the AASL, the Ministry has refused to make any payments for the coaches.

The three Ukrainian coaches were signed on a two-year contract and were in charge of the Sri Lanka poolists. They have been on their coaching assignment for the last three months.

Jayaweera said a total of Rs. six million is needed to meet the finances and other facilities of the three foreign coaches, who were brought down when former Minister Johnston Fernando was in office. - (D.W.)
