Korea to boost trade ties with Lanka By Sudarshana Perera The new Korean Ambassador designate Jae Hong Lim in cooperation with Kotra Colombo is to map out innovative programs to improve bilateral trade ties between Korea and Sri Lanka. The main focus on the agenda is to attract Korean investments, to counter competition particularly from China and Vietnam. Lim in an interview with the Daily News said that because of the competition some Korean investors have moved out. Korea is exploring potential expansion in the garments sector. He said that Sri Lanka has a conducive, investor friendly economy and Korean investors have renewed their interest to invest in Sri Lanka. The Ambassador said that s comprehensive study was under way to improve ties between the two countries and he would hold a discussion soon with investors and buyers to improve the export and import sectors of both countries. A trade delegation from Kyungsan City in Korea met some Sri Lankan importers in Colombo yesterday. "We hope that there would be more Korean investments in future as Sri Lanka's political climate stabilises". "Several Korean companies have also shown a keen interest in infrastructure development projects such as electricity, generating plants and road construction", he said. |
