Daya Samaraweera heads TTASL Superintendent of Police of Trincomalee Division Daya Samaraweera was elected President of the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka at the annual general meeting held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium recently. Samaraweera, a fine table tennis player during his school days at Dharmaraja took great pains to promote table tennis in the Northern and Eastern Provinces by holding coaching clinics in Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara. He has also played a key role in the formation of provincial table tennis associations to popularise the game in the provinces. Samaraweera is also the President of Central Province TTA and Northern Province TTA. Chandana Perera who works as a sports instructor at the Colombo Municipal Council was re-elected Secretary. He was the President of the TTASL from 1995 to 1997. After a short break he was elected as the Secretary of the TTASL in 2002 and was re-elected for the third successive year. During his Presidency of the TTASL Chandana popularised the game in the outstations by conducting district and provincial coaching camps for junior paddlers. Several outstanding players have emerged especially from Kurunegala and Ambalangoda The other office-bearers: Treasurer - Arshad Kuhaffa, Vice Presidents - Lalith Priyantha (a former President of the TTASL and a National Champion), M.M.M. Lafeer (President of the veterans (TTA) Mahanama Wijayagunarathna (President of Kalutara TTA), M.S.M. Zarook (Secretary of the Uva Province TTA), Eshantha Ariyadasa (President of the NorthWestern Province TTA), Waruna Gunawardana (former President of the Western Province TTA), Assistant Secretary Reza Latiff. In addition to these officials, representatives of twelve clubs were selected to serve the Central Council. |
