Nalandians to climb Everest A team of mountaineers from Nalanda College - Colombo will leave the island for Nepal on May 4 to place a new step in Sri Lankan mountaineering history. The team consists of six students, master in charge and a coach. Mountaineers of Nalanda College has brought credit to Sri Lanka by exploring 'Annapurna Himalayan Range' in 1996, Mt. Gokyo in 1997 and in the year 2000 by exploring 'Throng La Pass - 18,053 ft' (the biggest mountain pass in the world) and 'Kaligandaki Valley' (the deepest gorge in the world). This time they are attempting to climb Mt. Everest Base Camp, Mt. Kalapattar Peak (18,193 ft) and Mt. Imja Tse Peak (20,305 ft) to set new national records. They are also scheduled to participate in an International Mountain climbing course in Nepal. |
