Memorial Remembrances :
Late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike's birthday
on April 17
17th April was your Birthday Madam dear,
I remember staying on the 16th at Rosemead every year,
To enable me to wish you early on the seventeenth
Can one forget the roses, roses all the way
No nook or corner was left without roses
Father Srangnivels big rose contraption
Dominated the place, right in the hall
From morn till sundown streamed in visitors
To tender greetings to the world's first woman Prime Minister
No one was turned out they had their fill
From the dining table, which I remember still
You have handed over your skills to daughter - Chandrika
And your only son, a Minister in Parliament
A great wish I have, that you not attain Nibbana yet
Be born with us again and again, spreading wide your charm and goodwill -
and ultimately attain - Nibbana
- Yasa
