Richard Armitage congratulates Premier Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage telephoned Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse on Thursday and congratulated him on his assumption to office and conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes. Armitage serves as the Principal Deputy and Advisor to the Secretary of State and serves as Acting Secretary of State in the Secretary's absence. He assists the Secretary in the formulation and conduct of US Foreign Policy. ###### President to discuss IDP situation President Chandrika Kumaratunga has summoned the Service Chiefs, Government Agents of Batticaloa, Ampara and Trincomalee Districts, the representatives of UNICEF and UNHCR and other agencies involved with rehabilitation for a meeting on Monday. The assembly at President's House will discuss relief and rehabilitation measures for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the East, the Presidential Secretariat said. Thousands of civilians were temporarily displaced in Trincomalee and Batticaloa areas in the recent internecine skirmishes in the East. ####### Woman burnt to death by husband A teenaged pregnant woman was burnt to death allegedly by her husband following a quarrel on Sunday. The victim, a mother of one, was pronounced dead at the Colombo National Hospital. The victim, Sitti Rifana Nasardeen (18) was a resident of Hambantota. According to the Police the husband is absconding. |
