Camouflage uniform haul : Main smuggler arrested by Sarath Malalasekera The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the importing of army camouflage uniforms arrested the main international smuggler at the Bandaranaike International Airport on Sinhala and Tamil New Year day. The CID also took into custody the consignee of the camouflage uniforms, a businessman in Colombo, and detained until the completion of the investigations. Detective SP Ravi Waidyalankara investigating on the direction of CID DIG Lionel Gunatilleke and assisted by CID Director, Senior SP Sisira Mendis revealed that the international smuggler from Vaddukodai taken into custody by the CID is a British passport holder. The CID also took into custody a number of British, French and Iranian passports from the suspect's possession. The CID DIG deployed a special team headed by SP Waidyalankara to investigate with Interpol assistance to ascertain whether the suspect is involved with any other terrorists organisations. The consignment of camouflaged uniforms detected by the Customs was handed over to the CID for investigation. |
