Community rehabilitation and reconstruction drive in NE LANKAPUVATH: A massive community rehabilitation and reconstruction programme is now under way in districts adjustment to the North East Province for the benefit of war affected people, official sources told Lankapuvath. Action has been taken to improve facilities and provide services to the people affected by war in Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Ampara and Trincomalee Districts. In the Anuradhapura District, projects are under way to remove land mines and construct alternative roads to villages including Konewewa, Kambiliyawewa, Gajabapura and Moneragala. Payment of resettlement allowance and to repair damaged houses has been expected under their community rehabilitation initiative. The areas covered in the Vavuniya District are Avranthalawa, Rangethagama and Track 7, Palayauruwa, Pudiyasinnakulam, Kokeliya and Pirapamaduwa. Bus services are now in operation to resettlement areas in the Vavuniya District. Several temples and schools in Vavuniya were also renovated under this initiative. Several irrigation tanks were also reconstructed in the Trincomalee District. Repair work of the road to Welgamvehera village has been completed while drinking water wells have also been constructed for the benefit of villagers. A bus service has been launched from Trincomalee to Welgamvehera. A sum of 2,400,000 has been released by NECORD to the NWSDB for supply of water service from Kinniya to Welgamvehera. A resettlement allowance of Rs. 15,000 per family has been paid to 50 families and a further allowance of Rs. 25,000 per family has been paid to 9 families in the Trincomalee District. In the Sripura Padaviya Divisional Secretariat area permits have been issued to 128 farmers who cultivate under the Mee Oya Irrigation Scheme. |
