Army did not provide escort to Karuna, says Ministry

The Ministry of Defence yesterday categorically denied reports in the local media (not of the Lake House group) that the Army has provided escort to Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, better known as Karuna, to a destination in Colombo after the clash with the LTTE Wanni faction.

In a press release issued yesterday, the Defence Ministry stated that Karuna has not requested the Sri Lanka Army for refuge, nor have the Security Forces undertaken any such movement as speculated in the media.

The Ministry of Defence wish to state that none of the Security Forces are aware of the present whereabouts of Karuna and his senior cadres.
