Join hands in pursuit of excellence, Mangala tells Ministry staff

The new Ports and Aviation Minister Mangala Samaraweera yesterday invited all Ministry staff to join hands devoid of politics in the pursuit of excellence in their performance towards the development of the port.

He made this call when he officially took over functions of the Ports and Aviation Ministry at its office in Fort.

The two Deputy Ministers Dilan Perera and Dayasritha Tissera were also present.

The Minister said he was expecting trade union support in the attempt to use the people's mandate to develop the country.

The Minister stressed the need for advancement in port development that would have positive impact on the economy and added that this included some large development projects ever to be launched in the history of the country, including the Hambantota Port.

Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera delivering an anusasana urged the newly appointed minister to eliminate waste and corruption in the ministry and strive for every possible measure to make the people of the country to live with dignity and self respect. Former Ports Minister Rauf Hakeem also participated.
