Small bomb hurled at Australian embassy in Malaysia KUALA LUMPUR, Tuesday (Reuters) A small bomb exploded outside the Australian High Commission building in Malaysia's capital on Tuesday but caused no injuries or damage, officials and police said. The attack is the first on a foreign embassy in mainly Muslim Malaysia and comes a week after Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi scored a landslide win in general elections. No one has been arrested or claimed responsibility for the attack, Simon Merrifield, a spokesman for the high commission, said. The police were investigating. The device was hurled from a passing car at around 4.50 a.m. (2050 GMT). "It was a small plastic explosive," a police intelligence official told Reuters. Malaysia has tightened security around several Western embassies, including those of Australia, the United States and Britain, since the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington. It has also rounded up dozens of suspected Islamic militants in a crackdown that began well before the attacks. |
