Murali goes to WA to rectify bowling action The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket decided unanimously yesterday to send Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan for assessment to Western Australia to rectify his bowling action. An SLC release said that Muralitharan will be filmed by the University of Western Australia before Professor Bruce Elliott who is a member of the ICC Human Movement Panel and Daryl Foster. All expenses including professional fees will be borne by SLC. Meanwhile a report in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday quotes Elliott of saying: "Having seen him (Murali) bowling on television, it looks like an area of concern." "There does seem to be some extending of his action as he releases the ball. You are allowed a 10-degree extension of the arm during delivery." Elliott tests bowlers actions using a 12-camera system. "We put reflective markers over teh body and as they bowl we have cameras filming at 250 frames per second.... it is the same technology they used for the animation in Lord of the Rings," Elliott said. |
