K. Mervyn Silva, addressing an election meeting at Akurala said, that, the UNP wouldn't be able to come out of the present political mess for more than two decades. He was touring Ratgama electorate in support of Galle district FA candidate Mohan P. de Silva in association with two sons of the late Minister M. P. de Zoysa, who was one time Minister in the S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike cabinet, and Ratgama MP several times. "Ranil Wickremesinghe and his Ministers did nothing in the past two years for the benefit of the oppressed. He favoured his affluent friends only," he said. "It was evident when the Ranil Government curtailed the Samurdhi subsidy of the poor drastically giving concessions to tax defaulters," he said. "Tax concessions so given by Ranil accounted to billions and not millions," he said. "Ranil even didn't give a single chewing gum to the betel chewers or bracelets to the youth, or a single job to the youth, other than let his Ministers to rob national assets," for the past two years," he said. "People have already determined to vote for the Freedom Alliance in order to sack the UNP," he said. "Therefore Akurala voters being friends and close relations of the late, M. P. de Zoysa would vote for the FA in order to pay respect to the late de Zoysa I hope," he finally said. |
