Trade unions should think of the people they serve - Dinesh Gunawardane

Maharagam special correspondent

The trade unions of Sri Lanka seek only their benefits, and fight only for their demands. Therefore the public is not with them. They should think of the people who receive their service, said the leader of MEP and the candidate for Colombo district from the United People's Freedom Alliance Dinesh Gunawardana.

He made these statement speaking at meeting of the Socialist Education Professionals Forum held at the Central College, Maharagama recently.

This meeting was held to proclaim the fullest assistance to the UPFA in the forthcoming election. The Principal of Kottawa North Dahrmapala Vidyalaya and the adviser of the forum Ven. Aggrahare Kassapa Thera presided.

Speaking further Dinesh Gunawardana said: "The new trade union will be an example for our trade unions. There are a number of trade unions for each category of job in one institution.

All the categories of jobs from low to high in the education sector are united in this trade union.

The trade unions are overlooked by the people. The trade unions should seek to solve the problems of the masses who receive their services. Then the public also will extend their support in your activities.

The World Bank and other financing organisations are policy makers for new country. By this we become their slaves. We are unable to design our own project for our country.

This should be stopped. We need a national education policy to our children. Government only cannot serve this purpose. The counselling of veteran educationists is needed.

The UPFA Government wishes to appoint a council for every ministry with veterans on the subject.
