Rahula takes major honours in Battle of the Cities

The inaugural big match between St. Aloysius College, Galle and Rahula College, Matara ended in a draw at Galle International Stadium on Saturday with the major honours going to the visitors, Rahula College, Matara.

Dubbed as the Battle of two cities, in reply to Rahula's 1st innings total of 179 scored in 80.1 overs, Aloysians were bundled out for 123 runs in 64.4 overs at their home grounds.

In the 2nd innings Rahula with a lead of 76 valuable runs, scored a quick fire 138 for the loss of two wickets in 33 runs and set an impossible victory target of scoring 215 runs in 23 overs and at close of play, home side scored 68 runs for 4 wkts.

For the 1st innings victory, Rahula College was awarded the champions trophy in this 1st Big Match between the two schools.

For the winners, Sanjaya Chaturanga and skipper Sri Lanka Under 19 cap. M. M. M. Suraj scored half-centuries in the 1st innings and in the 2nd innings, again opener Sanjaya Chaturanga scored an unbeaten half-century while other opener Ranil Chaturanga also scored a half-century.

For the winners S. Samarawickrama and M. Mihiran captured 3 wickets each while Suraj capturing 2 wickets.

For the home side, W. Radika was the top scorer with 44 runs and right arm pacer Piyal Chaturanga captured 6 wkts for 54 runs in the 1st innings.

St. Aloysius College, Galle 123 all out in 64.4 overs C. Ishanka 39, W. Radika 44, S. Samarawickrema 3 for 33, M. Mihiran 3 for 10, M. M. M. Suraj 2 for 24 and 68 for 4 wkts in 22 overs. H. E. Vitana 39, N. T. Welihinda 20, Sanjaya Chaturanga 3 for 28.
