The High Commission of Pakistan, along with the people of Sri Lanka and the Pakistani community celebrated the Pakistan Day with traditional zeal and fervour, a Pakistan High Commission release said. The Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka Tanveer A. Khaskheli hoisted the national flag in a ceremony held at the Pakistan High Commission yesterday. A group of children wearing colourful Pakistani dresses recited the National Anthem of Pakistan and sang popular national songs. The Acting High Commissioner read out the messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan on this occasion. The President, General Pervez Musharraf in his Pakistan Day message urged the nation to remain steadfast to achieve the ideals for which the country was created. "The struggle must go on against those forces that aim to deflect us from our cherished goal of making Pakistan a modern and progressive Islamic welfare state", he added. The Prime Minister, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali expressed his government's resolve to make Pakistan an enlightened, modern Islamic welfare state. The Acting High Commissioner, Tanveer A. Khaskheli highlighted achievements in Pakistan-Sri Lanka bilateral relations in trade and culture. Officials of the High Commission, their families, members of the Pakistani community and the office-bearers of Sri Lanka-Pakistan Friendship Association attended the ceremony. |
