BOI participates in 14th East China Fair The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) recently participated in the 14th East China Fair at the New International Expo Centre in Shanghai from March 1 to 7. East China Fair (ECI), the largest regional trade fair held in China annually with most numbers of traders; variety of exhibits and the most onsite deals was co-sponsored by nine provinces and cities namely; Shanghai Jiansu, Fujian , Janxi Shangdong provinces and two cities of Nanjing and Ningbo. The 14th ECF with an exhibition area of 80,500 sqm comprised over 4158 standard booths from 3081 companies mainly on textiles , garments, light industry crafts and craftwork. China's open door policy and economic reforms launched in 1978 have progressed towards enhanced economic relationship with the ASEAN countries. Outward investments by Chinese enterprises are aimed at overcoming market access barriers, remaining cost competitive and diversifying markets and assets to reduce commercial risks and exploiting new investment opportunities. However, China being a very large country with vast potential to be exploited will have to be targeted focusing selected provinces by undertaking intensive promotional activities. The BOI organised an exhibition booth with the objective of developing contacts with the business community and to create an awareness of the competitive advantages of Sri Lanka as an attractive investment destination. The Booth was also complemented by two audiovisual programs on general business opportunities and tourism produced by the BOI in the Chinese language. Printed promotional materials in the Chinese language were also distributed among the visitors. The BOI delegation was led by Santhusht Jayasuriya, Deputy Director General (Promotion). |
