Critical study of veteran actor Gamini This is an exploration of the 50-year-long contribution of Gamini Fonseka as an actor, director, politician, lyricist and a fearless fighter for securing professional dignity of the artists. Here the critical study is laid in parallel to exploration of biographical details. This study argues how Gamini Fonseka pioneered the introduction of realistic acting to Asia. A great details of hitherto unrevealed facts on Gamini Fonseka is made available in this study. A number of rare photographs from his personal life as well as from his artistic life hitherto unpublished in any book, newspaper or a magazine are included in this book. This is a thesis presented by the author for his Post Graduate Diploma in Writership and Communication of the Sri Jayawardenapura University in 2002. To read on Gamini Fonseka is to restudy the history of the Sri Lankan Cinema. The book will be presented to Gamini Fonseka at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on March 22 during the "A Royal Salute - the Ceremony to Felicitate Gamini Fonseka". he book analytically studies in depth the contribution made by Gamini Fonseka to the Asian Cinema as an actor. In parallel, the position of Gamini Fonseka among actors in world, too is studied in depth. During the course of these studies how the school of global thoughts on acting styles and theories affected Gamini Fonseka and how he adopted them to shape his own identity as an actor have been exposed.
In addition, a fact file from his birth to date, his revolutionary contribution to the Sri Lankan film industry and the views of his peers about him is included enhancing the biographical quality of the work. The author holds a Bachelor's degree in Arts and a Post Graduate Diploma in Writership and Communications conferred by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He is a product of the Nalanda College, Colombo and Ananda College, Colombo. His maiden book "The trends of Sexuality in the Contemporary Cinema" was released in 1999 as a Fastads Publication.
