CMSC Mahagastota HillClimb, Sunday April 11 The Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) will conduct the annual Mahagastota Hill Climb on Sunday, April 11 on the Mahagastota Estate in Nuwara Eliya. Steeped in tradition the Mahagastota Hill Climb was the birthplace of Motor Racing in Sri Lanka. Since the 1930s drivers and riders have sought to battle machine over nature in the ascent to the top of the hill. Originally held in September, the event was moved into the traditional April New Year holidays period and continue to be one of the most prestigious events in the motoring calendar. This year is no exception and the CMSC is proud to conduct this event on Sunday April 11. The event is open to both cars and motor cycles and is a timed event where competitors are given a opportunities to climb the hill against the clock. As always the event is expected to attract the cream of Sri Lanka's racing talents, as also a fair share of newcomers. Being an event where vehicles compete one at a time the Mahagastota Hill Climb is a good entry point for novices. A world of caution to all drivers the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) has now ruled that from March 1 all drivers taking part in motor sport events must be in a possession of at least a temporary Competition License issued by the SLAS. All drivers entering the Mahagastota Hill Climb will therefore need a license issued by SLAS. Entry forms for the event are now available at the club office Jinasena Ltd., No. 4, Hunupitiya Road, Colombo 2. Entry forms need to completed and submitted to the club no later than 1st April. The main sponsor for the 2004 Hill Climb is Motor Marvels - agents for Citroen, Suzuki and Land Rover in Sri Lanka. |
