UNP giving false promises to people - Nandana Gunathilake

The United National Party which toppled the PA-JVP Probationary Government and came to power pledging immediate relief to the people has dragged the country down a precipice during the past two years, Freedom Alliance Chairman and former MP Nandana Gunathilake said.

Addressing a number of Freedom Alliance election rallies, he said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who went throughout the country on November 2001 gave a number of false pledges to the people, insulting their intelligence. People misled by these false pledges gave a simple majority to the UNP.

"However, there is no need to explain the situation after the UNP assumed power," he said.

Gunathilake said the UNP Leader who suppressed the people during the past two years, is again going throughout the country giving various false pledges to the people.

Commenting on a statement made by the Prime Minister at a political rally in Wellawaya that the second international airport will be set up in Wellawaya he said the Prime Minister has not yet stopped his normal policy of cheating the people.
