Softlogic - Sole authorized distributor for Nokia

Softlogic Communications (Pvt) Ltd has been the sole authorized distributor for Nokia mobile phones and accessories in Sri Lanka for more than three years.

Although Softlogic is the sole authorized distributor, potential customers in the past opted to buy mobile phones brought to the country via unauthorized channels, as they were more competitively priced vis-a-vis phones imported through the sole authorized distributor.

Nokia mobiles and accessories brought to the country through these channels constitutes the "Grey Market". Therefore, Softlogic as the authorized distributor of genuine Nokia products, was compelled to compete with the 'Grey Market'.

Softlogic is now able to offer a more competitive package for the Nokia mobile customers since the prices of genuine Nokia mobiles were reduced substantially from January 2004, with the waiving-off of the 20 per cent VAT levied on mobile phones, in compliance with the last Budget. Previously, potential customers were drawn to the 'Grey Market' as unauthorized channels were not subject to VAT.

Moreover, all Nokia mobile phones and accessories purchased from Softlogic will be given a 12-month warrantly backed by Nokia, and an excellent after-sales service, which could not be availed from the dealers in the 'Grey Market'. A 90-day warranty will be given for all repairs and replacements done for mobile phones that are not under warranty or bought from the authorized distributor.

Even though Nokia units purchased from abroad are alleged to carry an international warranty, Nokia does not issue an 'international warranty,' and the local warranty issued for 'Grey Market' phones is not backed by Nokia.

Softlogic operates the fully-fledged repair and service center, 'Nokia Professional Centre', and its outlets, 'Nokia Care Centre' and 'Nokia Point'.

This unique opportunity offered to Nokia customers will ensure longer and uninterrupted use of mobile phones. The 'Nokia Professional Centre' on Duplication Road at Bambalapitiya, 'Nokia Point' at Crescat Boulevard and 'Nokia Care Centre' at 901A, Peradeniya Road in Kandy are in operation for easy reach of customers. Another outlet located at the Duty Free shop at Katunanayake BIA Airport will soon commence operations.
