L. M. Farook as a UNP candidate for the Kegalle District at the general election. They decided this at a Balamandala meeting at his residence at Kanatthota, Ruwanwella. The crowd also demanded the UNP Election Nomination Board at Sirikotha remove Minister Rukman Senanayaka from the list of candidates for the Kegalle District, charging that he was unpopular among the people in the district. They had said if Senanayaka's name was nominated for the district, a majority of party supporters would reject him on the grounds that he had neglected the voters of the area. Contacted by the Daily News, Farook who is the CTB chairman, said his name had already been submitted to the UNP Headquarters. "I am fully confident of my victory at the April election, if my name is nominated," he added. UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunatillaka said that except the names of few major candidates, the Nomination Board has yet to finalise the names of other exact candidates and there is ample time to select the most suitable names which are to be entered in the lists before February 22. |
