News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Major crisis in TULF by Jayantha Sri Nissanka The TULF is facing a major crisis ahead of the General Elections with a majority of its stalwarts opting to contest from the Federal Party, placing beleaguered TULF President V. Anandasangaree in a major dilemma. In the list of candidates of the Federal Party are six members of the LTTE who will present themselves as members of a Voluntary Organisation. A majority of ex TULF MPs, the ACTC, EPRLF and TELO will contest the election from the Federal Party. The political tussle within the TULF commenced with the attempt by some Party seniors to oust Anandasangaree who had consistently refused his moderate party to be used as a cats paw of the LTTE. Since Anandasangaree obtained a restraining order debarring any member from taking decisions without his consent other TULF members had no option but to contest under an alternate party. The new development has posed a threat of the TULF being wiped out as a force in Northern politics. A defiant Anandasangaree said he would somehow find members to contest under the TULF and win the election. "Although all others have ganged up against my leadership the intelligent people in the North will decide the political future of rebel MPs in the TULF," Anandasangaree told the Daily News. |
