Freedom Alliance will protect rights of all: D. M. Jayaratne

Kandy North group correspondent

The United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) while opposing any threat to the rights of the Sinhala Buddhists, is dedicated to protecting and safeguarding the rights and privileges of all communities including the Tamils and Muslims, said Post and Telecommunication Minister D. M. Jayaratne.

Addressing a UPFA propaganda meeting at Welamboda, Udunuwara, yesterday, he said the Freedom Alliance will build a society where all communities can live in peace and harmony in an atmosphere guaranteeing 100 per cent security.

"It was the Bandaranaike Governments that fostered education among the Muslim community, especially when the late Dr. Badiudin Mahmud was the Education Minister", he said.

Jayaratne said it was he who made the Meelad un Nabi, a National Festival with the participation of an Islamic delegation from Iran.

The Minister pledged support to indigenous industries and national products.

He said during the past two years, the UNP sold lands to foreigners.

The sale of Ambuluwawe Allapu Kanda to a Swiss hotelier is one such land, he said.
