Muslim Congress stalwart joins Freedom Alliance

Former UNF Deputy Minister of Highways A. L. M. Athaullah, a pioneer of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Ashraff Wing, Anwar Ismail and Harees have decided to contest the General Election under the symbol of the betel leaf, pledging total support to the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Ferial Ashraff and L. M. A. L. Hisbullah, the leadership of the National Unity Alliance have already decided to contest on the UPFA ticket.

Accordingly, a strong mandate is expected for the Freedom Alliance in the Eastern Province at the General Election, stated former Deputy Minister Hisbullah.

A team of delegates from the Ashraff Wing led by A.L.M. Athaullah was expected to meet President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga last night or this morning to inform her of this decision.

The leadership of both these groups have agreed to act with unity to promote the victory of their respective representatives.
