Regional Head in Colombo

Regional Head of Consumer Banking for Standard Chartered Som Subroto is in Colombo to formally open the Bank's 9th Branch at Lipton Circus.

Som is the Regional Head of Consumer Banking for Standard Chartered Bank in the Middle East and South Asia (MESA), a role he has been in since February 2003.

In this role Som Subroto is responsible for the Bank's consumer business in countries across this region, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iran, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

One of the leading international banks in the region, Standard Chartered has a branch network of 76 branches in 10 countries. Overall, the Middle East and South Asia region contributed over 20% of the Group's pre-tax profits in 2003, clearly demonstrating the Bank's strong network and expertise in the region.

Standard Chartered employs 30,000 people in over 500 locations in more than 50 countries in the Asia Pacific Region, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the United Kingdom and the Americas. It is one of the world's most international banks, with a management team comprising 70 nationalities.

Standard Chartered Bank opens branch at Lipton Circus

Standard Chartered Bank will open its Branch at Lipton Circus today. The new branch, which is designed in keeping with the Bank's international standards will provide a comprehensive range of products and services.

One of the unique features of this new branch would be the introduction of Sunday Banking. This would mean that one Branch of Standard Chartered would be open seven days of the week. In addition to ample parking and easy access the Bank has gone so far as to even offer valet parking for customer convenience.

The Branch will also showcase an exhibition depicting old photographs of Colombo to mark the opening.

In addition to this new state of the art - designed branch, the bank also recently refurbished its Head office in Fort and Wellawate branch in keeping with international group standards. The Bank is also in the process of refurbishing its branch in Bambalapitiya.
