Upward trend at Bourse

Gains at the Colombo Bourse continued yesterday. The All Share Price Index increased to 1,142.56 points from 1,126.81 points on Tuesday. The Milanka Index too spiralled to 1,960.98 points from 1933.22 points.

Turnover for the day stood at Rs 97,549,232 compared to Rs 687,735,578 the previous day.

According to market sources, the fluctuation in turnover yesterday was not a major setback as the previous day's turnover was highly mooted by Carson's transactions. Sources also said that most of the traders go on a "Wait and See" approach in their number gaining at CSE.

Ceylinco Seylan, Seylan Bank (Non Voting), Lanka Ventures , JKH and SLT were the highest contributors. Domestic purchases recorded Rs 1,259 million and foreign purchases Rs 41 million.

The day's top five gainers were Eagle Insurance, Coco Lanka , MLL, Blue Diamonds and Glaxo.

Ceylon Glass, Seylan Bank, Ceylinco Insurance and Sampath Bank announced a 19 % interim, 15 % first and final, 20 % first and final and 5% second and final dividends.
