Pakistan labour minister dies from heart attack

LAHORE, Pakistan, Friday (AFP) Pakistan's Labour Minister Abdul Sattar Lalika died here on Friday of a heart attack, the government said.

Lalika, in his mid-50s, suffered a massive cardiac seizure at his home in this eastern city around midday and died before he could be taken to hospital, government spokesman Akram Shaheedi said.

He was elected to the national assembly in the October 2002 elections from his home constituency in Chistian in central Punjab province.

A seasoned politician, Lalika had already sat in previous five assemblies. He also served in the cabinet of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif before the military toppled Sharif in an October 1999 coup.
