Fox Hill Super Cross on April 16 and 17 The 12th Fox Hill Super Cross 2004 the number ONE motor sporting event in Sri Lanka organised by the Sri Lanka Military Academy in association with Sri Lanka Association Racing Drivers and Riders will be held at Fox Hill Super Cross track, Diyatalawa on 16 and 17 April 2004. The event provides riders and drivers an opportunity to display their skills through twenty-eight events, on a uniquely laid out track. The track itself is up to international standards and that 90% of the spectators could follow the entire track from any location. Such a track is not seen in any other part of the country. Fox Hill is within the precincts of the Army cantonment at Diyatalawa and has a history of more than one hundred years. The hill was named after HMS Fox, the ship that brought Boer War prisoners to Ceylon in 1913, for confinement in Diyatalawa. The salubrious climate and the landscape of the surrounding areas provide an ideal place for a day's relaxation for holiday, revellers and makers the local population during the month of April. Thereby, the event has become very popular over the years due to the cosmopolitan crowd, entertainment and other facilities. Motor sports lovers and many others have a day full of thrills & spills. Naturally, it becomes the only such venue in Uva. The event is organised by the Sri Lanka Military Academy which is the premier military training institute in Sri Lanka. As such, it is well conducted and appreciated. The proceeds of the event are used to develop the infrastructure in the Academy, to bring it on par with other such Academies in the region. Thus, the ultimate objective of the whole exercise is to have an Academy, which all Sri Lankans can be proud of. |
